NYC Little Italy

Little Italy (it. Piccola Italia) è un famoso Quartiere con popolazione di origine italiana di New York negli Stati Uniti, situato nella Lower Manhattan, la parte meridionale del distretto (borough) di Manhattan. Un tempo popolata da molti italoamericani (i napoletani si stabilirono principalmente in Mulberry Street, i siciliani in Elizabeth Street e i calabresi e i pugliesi in Mott Street), dalla metà del XX secolo essi hanno iniziato a trasferirsi in altri quartieri cittadini più periferici e da allora l'estensione di Little Italy è andata sempre più riducendosi. 

Little Italy confina a sud con un altro famoso quartiere di immigrati, Chinatown. Il quartiere cinese ha ormai assorbito buona parte di quella che una volta era Little Italy. Allo stesso modo a nord, in prossimità di Houston Street, l'area una volta occupata da Little Italy ha perso il suo aspetto tipicamente italiano. La parte circostante Mulberry Street, lungo la quale si allineano i negozi italiani (in particolare i ristoranti), tra Broome Street e Canal Street, è quello che rimane della Little Italy di Manhattan. Pochi italiani risiedono ancora a Little Italy.

Little Italy (it. Piccola Italia) is a famous district of Manhattan, in the southern part of the district of Manhattan. Once populated by many Italian-Americans (the Neapolitans settled mainly on Mulberry Street, the Sicilians on Elizabeth Street and the Calabrians and the Apulians in Mott Street), from the mid-twentieth century began to move to other suburban neighborhoods and since then the extension of Little Italy has been increasingly reduced.
Little Italy borders south with another famous immigrant neighborhood in Chinatown. The Chinese quarter has now absorbed much of what was once Little Italy. Similarly to the north, near Houston Street, the area once occupied by Little Italy has lost its typically Italian appearance. The part surrounding Mulberry Street, along the Italian shops (in particular the restaurants), between Broome Street and Canal Street, is what remains of the Little Italy of Manhattan. Few Italians still reside in  Little Italy.

La metropolitana di New York è una città nella città in cui puoi incontrare lo spirito della metropoli che non dorme mai. Gente di tutte le razze e religioni, persone che studiano e che sonnecchiano, barboni che dormono ed operai col caschetto che vanno al lavoro e ti aiutano a ritrovare la linea giusta per ritornare in hotel, concerti improvvisati, temperature tropicali, treni che vanno e che vengono verso nord e verso sud, che fermano in alcune stazioni ed in altre no, linee chiuse all'improvviso la notte in occasione delle celebrazioni del 11 settembre e stazioni chiuse durante la notte per manutenzione... e tu che ritornando verso l'hotel rimani a piedi all'una di notte. Ti dici, ma che problema c'è, a New York alzi il braccio ed un taxi lo trovi sempre... peccato che ti ritrovi dalle parti di China Town ed a quell'ora i rari taxi che passano sono tutti occupati, il cellulare è scarico... e ti tocca aspettare più di mezzora prima che ne passi uno con la luce verde che finalmente si ferma e ti porta in salvo. Anche questa è la metropolitana di New York, ti porta dappertutto, ma ti può anche lasciare a piedi; ma alla fine tutto è bene quel che finisce bene!

The New York subway is a city in the city where you can meet the spirit of the metropolis that never sleeps. People of all races and religions, people who study and doze, homeless that sleep and workers with a helmet who go to work and help you find the right line to return to the hotel, impromptu concerts, tropical temperatures, trains going and coming towards north and south, which stop in some stations and others do not, lines closed suddenly during the night before celebrations of 11 September and stations closed during the night for maintenance ... and you who return to the hotel stay on foot at one o'clock at night. You say, but what's the matter,  in New York you raise your arm and a taxi is always there ... unfortunate that you find yourself in the parts of China Town and at that hour the rare taxis that pass are all busy, the phone is discharged ... and you have to wait more than half an hour before a taxi with the green light pass and finally stops and takes you to safety. This is also the New York subway, it takes you everywhere, but it can also leave you on foot; but in the end all is well that ends well!
