Lo splendido castello di Loretello, che sorge su un poggio a 300 metri d’altezza, dista circa 15 km da Arcevia, in direzione S. Lorenzo in Campo. Tra i castelli del territorio rimasti è quello più antico: nominato per la prima volta nel 1072, edificato insieme alla chiesa di S. Andrea dai monaci di Fonte Avellana, divenne possesso di Rocca Contrada nella seconda metà del ‘200. Il vero e proprio castello, come appare oggi, risale ad un ampliamento avvenuto probabilmente tra la fine del ‘300 e i primi decenni del ‘400. Notevole la cinta muraria in laterizio, interamente percorribile, tra i migliori esempi di architettura militare della provincia. L’edificio più importante, oltre allo spettacolare ponte d’accesso in laterizio (sec. XV), è il grande torrione circolare quattrocentesco con ancora visibili gran parte delle feritoie.
