Segesta

La fama di Segesta è indubbiamente legata soprattutto al celebre tempio dorico costruito dagli Elimi, risalente alla metà del V secolo a. C. e lasciato probabilmente incompiuto, uno dei templi più interessanti e meglio conservati della Sicilia. Imponente, domina solitario da un’altura il paesaggio circostante. Il Tempio di Segesta si innalza sulla collina di Barbaro ed è circondato da un paesaggio silenzioso e suggestivo. La perfezione e la precisione con cui è stato costruito inducono a pensare che gli architetti e molti operai dovevano essere greci di Sicilia, esperti nella costruzione dei templi. Passeggiando nei pressi del tempio si può rivivere le sensazioni magiche delle persone che lo costruirono e vi praticarono la loro religione al suo interno. Le stesse sensazioni si rivivono sedendosi nell'antico teatro in cima alla collina con vista maestosa sul golfo di Castellammare.

The fame of Segesta is undoubtedly linked especially to the famous Doric Temple  built by the Elymians,  dating from the mid-5th century BC and left unfinished, probably one of the most interesting temples and best preserved of Sicily. Impressive, dominating a solitary Hill on the surrounding landscape. The Temple of Segesta rises on the Hill of Barbaro and is surrounded by a quiet and picturesque landscape. The perfection and precision with which it was made to think that architects and many workers had to be Greeks of Sicily, experts in the construction of temples. Walking near the temple you can relive the magical feelings of the people who built and practised their religion in it.  The same feelings you are relived sitting in the ancient theater at the top of the hill with majestic view on the Gulf of Castellammare.
